Red berries (arils) of the Japanese Yew.

Red berries of the Japanese Yew.

While I was walking near my father’s house in Hakodate city, Hokkaido in early October, I saw the pretty red berries of the Japanese Yew.

One of my good memories.

Those berries reminded me of the days I used to pick and eat them (except seeds) on my way home from elementary school.

Seeds are poisonous.

The red berries are edible and sweet. However, it wasn’t until I became an adult that I learned that the seeds are toxic and very poisonous. Please don’t eat them!

Japanese Yew
学名:Taxus cuspidata
