Mai-ogi has been used in Noh play, Kabuki and traditional Japanese dance since ancient times.
It is used as a tool to enhance expression of dance. Its size is bigger than ordinary folding fans.
I use it in Noh plays.

舞扇は古代より、能楽（のうがく）、歌舞伎、日本舞踊に使われています。
舞の表現を豊にする道具として使われます。
扇子（せんす）より一段大きなサイズです。
私は能舞台で舞扇を使います。
