Morning glories(朝顔)

Staff and students of AMKY are writing about Japanese culture or something so Japanese from their own perspectives-スタッフと生徒が英語で紹介する「身近な日本文化」です。

Morning glories(朝顔)

Morning glories are popular in Japan. I enjoy growing them every spring and summer.

I sow the seeds on May 5th every year and they start blooming in the middle of June.

I usually use the seeds from previous years. This year, I also used the seeds which my granddaughter harvested 4 years ago in her school.

I see morning glories everywhere in summer. During the Edo period, it became very popular and people have begun to create new varieties.
